Zephronia sp. "Patterned Black" / Zephronia sp. "Rusty"
Malaysian Pill Millipedes – For Experienced Keepers frome Malaysia
I currently keep two varieties of Malaysian pill millipedes:
Zephronia sp. "Patterned Black"
Zephronia sp. "Rusty"
These millipedes are recommended for experienced keepers only, as they require stable environmental conditions.
Care Requirements
Temperature: Do not exceed 25°C. The optimal temperature is around 23°C.
Humidity: High humidity is essential.
Substrate
A deep substrate is very important. I recommend using approximately 15 cm of well-decomposed oak leaf litter, mixed with small pieces of rotting hardwood. On top, add around 10 cm of dry oak leaves. You can also include pieces of bark and decayed wood.
Before using oak leaves, I keep them for about one month in a sealed container in a warm place with water covering approximately one-quarter of the leaves. This helps start the decomposition process.
Oak leaves make up the main part of their diet, but I also recommend providing flake soil as an additional food source.
Notes
These millipedes are recommended only for experienced keepers because they require consistently stable conditions. Even with proper care, occasional losses can still occur.
The "Patterned Black" variety is significantly hardier and has a much higher survival rate than the "Rusty" variety.
