Some tips for buyers with little or no experience with importing live animals and/or in dealing with exporters from tropical countries:

0.) Use common sense. If something looks like too good to be true it won't be real in 99%. Do not think you are the lucky one.

1.) Ask for a proper ID (scan sent per Email) and good references of the exporter. Everyone has an anonymous email today so how can you know the real nameof the person trying to sell you something. If the exporter is not able to prove his identity forget him/her.
Ask the exporter if everything is included in the price (documents, shipping, paperwork...) or what additional costs you will have to pay.

2.) Be VERY careful with upfront payments. Ideally make a small trial order and only after everything has worked out properly than make the big order.
For bigger shipments you will at least to pay the shipment upfront.

3.) If you payed the asked amount in full and the dealer aks you for some additional money (for any reason, like paperwork, death of collector and other steven king like stories) to be able ship the animals NEVER EVER send any additional money - just forget your money and send me an email. This is the classical NIGERIA SCAM (use google and you will find quite interesting facts) and all the additional sent money will also be lost.

4.) Be aware that air freight shipment can be VERY expensive and that the cost of the shipment of small numbers of animals can be more expensive that the animals themselves.

5.) DO not be naive and do not expect that things in third worls countries work like at home in Europe or the US. Expect to wait for weeks to get your parcel and expect that the seller has a completely different understanding of pretty everything.
So discuss everything that is important to you in detail with the exporter.

6.) Not only the country of origin has laws regulating the export of animals but most countries have strict regulations of importing animals!
Please ask your authorties about any of those import regulations BEFORE you buy/import living anmimals from foreign countries.
If the customs of your country confiscated and killed your animals on import because it is illegal to import them into your country - don't blame the seller to be a swindler!

REGULATION CHANGES IN NEAR FUTURE

Dear friends of the www.terraristik.com INSECT ADS.

As obviously there seem to be hundreds of new exporting companies in africa that are willing to export their animals, or there seem to be a little too many people that look to get rich too quick by trying a little scam we will soon implement a obligatory registration for exporters from all countries outside Europe or the US.
Each exporter will have to send a scan of an ID document together with full information about his/her person and company.
We will also create an EXPORTER LIST of all identified exporters.
Every exporter and dealer that wants to be on this list can apply for inclusion on the list.

We always had the regulation, that only private ads are free and commercial ads would cost something.

But as have not created my homepage and also this insect classifieds for profit, I did not care about some commercial offers here.
But now enough is enough.
One commercial ad will cost 2 Euro..

If you are an commercial exporter from a country outside Europe or the US you will soon have to pay for the first 20 ads before we can process your registration. So you will have to send us 40 Euro for 20 ads and a proper identification (scan of ID card or passport)if possible references and the full company details.
But you will get a lot of service for this little money:

1.) You will be listed in the EXPORTER DIRECTORY. (Name, address, Email, phone, website, and special fields of operation) - this directory will be published in the internet on this well visited page and will tell anyone that you are a reputable and trustable dealer or exporter.
2.) You will be able to post 20 commercial ads for exporting animals on this board. (so the registration is in fact free)

Some important regulations:

Anyone exporting/selling wild caught animals will be considered COMMERCIAL.

I I get more that 3 trustworthy complaints about someone registered as exporter/dealer this dealer will be removed from the list and will not be able to post classifieds anymore. The fee will also be lost.
However we will look into each case very carefully and will contact you to explain us your viewpoint before we will ban you.
